Frostbite'27

Cold water. Clear minds.

A ten-week winter lure and fly competition, freshwater and sea, built for anglers of every level and for families who fish together. Entries open on 1 December, and places are capped.

Why Frostbite is different

Not just another pike comp

01

Every species can win

Each fish is scored against its own species. Hit the benchmark length and you score 100. A 38 cm perch scores about the same as an 85 cm pike, so the angler with the best fish wins, not the one with the biggest pike water.

02

Fresh and salt, lure and fly

Rivers, canals, lakes, the shore or a kayak. Pike, perch, zander, chub and grayling, or bass, pollack, cod and wrasse. 33 species score, all on one leaderboard.

03

Built for families

Enter as a parent and child for £12. Juniors get their own series and their own prizes, and they get coaching, not penalties. This is about getting kids out fishing in winter, not just the hardcore.

04

It backs British tackle

Use any brand you like, JDM included, as long as a UK business sold it to you. Lures from approved UK handmade makers, and flies you tie yourself, score 1.25x.

How the scoring works

Same scale, every species

Score = 100 × length ÷ your species' benchmark. Your best 10 fish count, up to five of any one species, plus bonus points for every species you catch.

Perch84.438 cm against a 45 cm benchmark
vs
Pike85.085 cm against a 100 cm benchmark

Questions

Good to know

Do I need to be a good angler?

No. Scoring is against each species' own benchmark, so a decent perch from your local canal can hold its own. Weekly votes and challenges mean there's something to go for every week.

Where can I fish?

Anywhere in the UK you're allowed to: rivers, canals, lakes, the shore or from a kayak. You need the right licence and the venue's permission. Charter boats don't count.

Can I use Japanese or foreign lures?

Yes. Any brand counts, JDM included. What matters is that you bought it from a UK business, a tackle shop or a UK online retailer.

How do I log a fish?

Photograph it on a measure with the day's code in the picture, then log it on your Frostbite page. Every catch is checked within 48 hours.

Can my child enter on their own?

Yes. Junior entry is £5, or a parent and child can enter together for £12. A parent or guardian enters for them.
